Understanding SAP MDG: Reuse Mode vs. Flex Mode for Master Data Governance

Types of table in SAP MDG

1. Staging area / Staging table : While processing change Request data is stored in Staging table

2.Actual tables / SAP tables : MARA, MARC, MARD, BUT000

Change Request

There are 2 types of mode in SAP MDG
1. Reuse mode
2. Flex mode

Reuse Mode:
  1. In the Reuse mode, SAP MDG leverages the concept of "central governance" to manage master data. It focuses on creating a single, authoritative source for master data records, which can be used across various applications and systems in the organization.
  2. The primary objective of the Reuse mode is to ensure data consistency and quality by maintaining a centralized master data repository.
  3. Master data records are centrally governed, and any changes or updates to these records are applied across all applications using this data.
  4. Reuse mode typically involves a more structured data model and stricter data governance policies.
Flex Mode:
  1. In contrast, Flex mode in SAP MDG allows for more decentralized governance of master data.
  2. It offers a more flexible approach by enabling data maintenance at a local level. Business units or departments can manage their specific master data records independently, without centralizing governance.
  3. Flex mode is often used when there is a need to accommodate specific regional or business unit requirements that may not align with the centralized governance model.
  4. This mode allows for greater flexibility in managing master data records based on individual needs, without impacting other parts of the organization.

  1. Hello Sir,

I am bit of confuse here. How come flex mode stored in staging area after the CR final activation? In my experience Financial data is critical data and it must clear from staging area.
